Cyber Crime is Rampant
Many business organizations maintain only cursory computer security as they believe the cost of building a strong cyber security shield is more expensive that taking a chance on a data breach.
These businesses are wrong! Just look at the following statistics provided by CBS News that were broadcast on March 3, 2015.
- There are 1.5 million annual cyber-attacks annually
- Per IBM, businesses are exposed to attack incidents an average of 16,856 times each
year, or 46 attacks each day – that is two attacks per hour - Thankfully, most of these attacks fail. But about 1.7% succeed and that is a staggering
number. - In 2014, CBS tells us that 47% of adults in the United States had personal information

increase in identity theft. The total amount of credit card fraud attributable to identity
theft in the US for 2013 was more than $18 billion dollars. - In 2013, cyber crime cost 7% of organizations in the United States reported losses in
excess of $1million dollars and 19% had fraud losses of $50,000 or more.
Since nearly every company stores data about its customers ranging from email addresses to personal financial information, it is incumbent upon businesses to take preventative measures against cyber-attacks.
